Changes

Topic: A Day in the Life of a Divorce and Family Law Attorney

There were many changes at the Firm this week.  I'm always amazed how just when you think the boat is steady, it gets rocked by yet another storm.  When I decided to expand my Firm from being a solo practitioner, I believed it would be a good thing to have a small community of like-minded and trustworthy people to work with me and to give them a great place to work and their families a good and solid support system.  It indeed has worked out that way and the Family Law Firm is a really fun and great place to work.

Our Firm Administrator, Oscar Calvillo, has decided to pursue his own dreams in the automotive repair and fancy car making industry.  He started with a small shop and it expanded and grew overnight.  His new business needed him and so unfortunately he had to tend to his own dream business.  I hope that everyone at the Firm realizes that when changes occur, someone leaves to pursue their own dreams, education or otherwise, it is actually an opportunity for growth and learning. In this particular case, Jacob Olsen has now taken on the very difficult and high stress job of being our Firm Administrator. I'm so proud of his background and education, graduating from UNM Anderson School of Business Management and his extensive background and history in Marketing and Business Management.  He will be the ship's "Number One" as Captain Jean Picard of the Starship Enterprise used to call his guy who was next in line to him. I am excited for Jacob as this will expand his already impressive resume and I believe will also be of great benefit to the Firm.

Along with this change, we have changed the job descriptions of two of our other excellent employees.  The first one is Clarence Ramirez.  He has his OWN office now!!!!  Isn't that cool?  He is the nicest, most loyal and respectful employee at the Family Law Firm and all of our Divorce, Custody and other Family Law clients just love Clarence.  He will now be heading up client relations.

The other change is with Barbara Bond.  Now that Oscar is gone and Jacob is the Firm Administrator, he will need an assistant to help him with the extremely heavy workload he will be carrying. So Barbara will continue to be my personal paralegal and assistant, while she also works with Jacob as his assistant. This means we will have paralegals moving from one paralegal space to another, moving a legal assistant to manage the Front Desk, and other minor "relocations" within the Firm.  My goal is to have everybody know that no matter who goes where in the building, or who does what, we are all still part of the SAME team.  Without each other, none of us will continue to have the great jobs we all have.

I am very proud of our staff as we continue to navigate our way into further success and expansion. I know that things are not always perfect, that's for sure everywhere, but I believe that our Firm offers the best experience for employees as can be found anywhere else.  We just need to weather some of these difficult changes, like we've always done, and we will be fine.

I know I don't say it enough to my Staff, but I want them all to know how very very proud I am to have each and every person who is on my Staff.  I appreciate each of you for all of your individual talents and personalities that you bring with you and I hope to make your experience at The Family Law Firm as good as possible.  Yes, we have tough jobs, especially because we specialize in New Mexico Divorce, Child Custody Cases, Child Support, Paternity, Family Law and all related cases which are some of the most difficult cases in Law.  Yes, it is tough to deal with the very emotional issues in our cases.  But that's what we do.  That's what we all got into this for.  So we have to remember that and appreciate each and every client that walks through our doors and gives US the honor to serve them.

Enough of that.  The changes have happened and now onward and upward.  Help me in wishing Jacob, Barbara and Clarence well on their new job descriptions.  Felissa M. Garcia
