Interesting NM Child Custody Client Today

It never ceases to amaze me when a parent in NM wants to get custody of a child just for the sake of getting custody of a child.  Sometimes, it doesn't matter what is in the child's best interest so long as one parent "wins" or hurts the other parent by taking away the child even though the child should remain where he or she is.  In the case I heard today, the Dad doesn't even like the child, he was disappointed when his child was born autistic and yet he wants to take custody away from the mother.  What's up with that?  He says it's because the child is better off with him so he doesn't have to pay any child support.  Yet, this child has always been with, and lived with the mother, during the marriage and since they separated.  The dad doesn't even know how to really take care of an autistic child.  It is a sad case, to be sure, and I hope that the Judge in this case sees the situation for what it really is.  Felissa M.
