Topic: A Day in the Life of a Divorce Lawyer

Hi again!  Well when I came in to work this morning, I was very energetic and ready to tackle the day, take care of all those cases sitting on my desk that need attention and it started out really great but by now at 2:40 p.m. I have totally run out of steam!  I suppose one clue could be that I woke up at 1 o'clock this morning and couldn't go back to sleep after.  And then, as you for sure know, I got sleepy when it was time to get out of bed.  I don't get it.  I'm one of those people who needs my sleep and if I don't get it, well, let's just say it's not pretty!

I wonder often if work as a New Mexico Divorce Lawyer is similar to other jobs unrelated to the law.  We either sit and study, write and draft Motions and Briefs all day, or are in Court at all other times.  Though I haven't seen much of the inside of a Court room for the past few months because most of my cases have been settling which is a good thing!  But being a lawyer, I always say that we are in a time warp.  An hour, or five hours, can pass and it seems as though it was only a few minutes.  It sure doesn't feel like that when I'm trying to work out, that's FOR SURE!  But being a NM Divorce Attorney is very exciting and quite stimulating.  We get to learn so many other types of law as they relate to divorces and there's always a new case coming down to us from either the Court of Appeals or from the Supreme Court.  Those are the cases we need to study that will either help, or hurt, our future cases, depending on which side of the case you fall on.  But I enjoy doing this and although I was very happy when I was a disc jockey on the radio while I was in college and part time while I was in Law School at UNM, I didn't get the challenges I get now and the greatest of opportunities to make a positive difference in people's lives as I do now as a NM Attorney.  It really is an honor being able to walk through those Court room doors and be able to argue a case in front of a District Court Judge.  It truly is an honor.

Well so much for taking a little break to say hi and write a little, it's time to get back to the world of practicing Family Law in beautiful Albuquerque, New Mexico!  Thanks for reading and I look forward to talking to you again soon!
