Time to Rest

Topic: A Day in the Life of a Divorce and Family Law Attorney

Thank goodness I finished my Brief-in-Chief for the Court of Appeals that was due yesterday, Friday. I am so tired now I can't even rest! Have you ever had that feeling? Yup that's where I am right now. And to top it off, I only have a couple of days of rest because starting Monday I begin drafting a Memorandum of Law for a case involving jurisdiction. It is a very interesting issue so I'm looking forward to it for those reasons.

While I was getting ready to finish my brief yesterday, I was hit with a huge realization. Even though I signed the brief, and my name is on the brief, I realized that there's no way I could have done such a good job on it if I didn't have the staff that I have. They are just wonderful. Imagine this. Having a staff that you tell them to leave early and they don't want to leave! I'm so proud of all of them. So if anybody from the New Mexico Court of Appeals is reading our blog, please know that my name represents every single person on my staff because they all deserve to be recognized.

I'll let you know how the Memorandum is going. I just love when my clients bring me issues that are so interesting and require intensive research and writing. It is the coolest thing for me. I would much rather draft briefs right now than going to Court. I'm tired of the BS that goes on there. All of it combined. The opposing lawyers who can be jerks, the Judges who sometimes make decisions that are bizarre and just the stress of it all. However, there is one caveat. When the case is very complex and involves interesting questions of law, or when my client has been wronged in the past, either by the opposing party or by the Court then I LOVE to go to Court.  Mmmm hmmmmmm. You heard it straight from me. Have a great weekend. Felissa M. Garcia
