As attorneys, we get advertisements for classes being taught by other lawyers or by Judges or hearing officers. I got one last week on a class in domestic violence that is being taught by.........none other that Rosemary Cosgrove Aguilar. OMG. Of all people to teach a class on domestic violence, they pick the one special commissioner who is the last person who should be teaching anything about domestic violence. Here's what most people believe is what she will teach: "You are the man, you are guilty of domestic violence. You are the woman, poor you, I'll instantly give you a restraining order." I can't tell you how many cases I've had in front of this commissioner, and how many cases all the other lawyers in my Firm have had in front of her where there is NO evidence of domestic violence against a guy and she still finds the guy guilty of domestic violence. All the woman has to do is cry. It's as simple as that, it appears. One of my lawyers that works for me just had a case in front of Cosgrove Aguilar where this Wife got mad at her Husband who was our client, and so she decided to file a restraining order against him, which Cosgrove Aguilar granted. At the hearing, the Wife provided absolutely no evidence of domestic violence and our client even provided proof that the Wife was the one who hit him and broke his phone and Cosgrove Aguilar still ordered a restraining order against the Husband. What a waste of time. Men beware, you don't have a chance if you're in this commissioner's hearing room.
Still more shocking is that she'll actually be teaching a class on this stuff. I almost want to go just to see if she contradicts everything she does in the Court room but I don't want to waste money on my simple curiosity. Here's the deal. Every other attorney I know feels the same way about this special commissioner. They just don't say it out loud and they certainly won't put it in writing. So I guess I'm the one that has to get it out there for all of us. Hmm. That's ok. I'll see you later. Felissa
